A tale of two ISPs

Hampshire-based Giganet is teaming up with CityFibre to deliver gigabit speeds to homes in Portsmouth, Swindon, Reading, Plymouth, Crawley and Horsham in 2021. The two companies have been partners since 2018.

“This…will bring Giganet’s full fibre broadband services to hundreds of thousands of homes across the South,” said CEO Andrew Skipsey. “Building on our huge experience of offering full fibre home broadband, this partnership will ensure we can connect even more people in previously poorly served areas.”

Greg Mesch, CEO of CityFibre, said it was now building out its network in 67 towns and cities in the UK and was on target to pass 8 million premises by 2025.

Meanwhile London’s Community Fibre has decided to launch Community Fibre TV using a combination of its own gigabit-capable FTTP network and Netgem TV’s IPTV platform.

Netgem’s Sylvain Thevenot, commented: “London consumers will finally get to enjoy the full 21st century entertainment experience combining award winning connectivity from Community Fibre with the top-of-the-range TV service we have developed for UK ISPs. The service pulls together all the most popular live channels with easy-to-find streaming titles across many On-demand platforms, keeping everyone entertained on faster broadband and at an affordable price.”

Community Fibre, which is backed by Warburg Pincus, DTCP, Amber Infrastructure and RPMI Railpen, is investing £400 million in rolling out FTTP to one million households and businesses across London by 2023. Unlike many of its rivals, the company launches and operates its own network.
